The decision, agreed with the author, covers all formats. Copies already in bookshops may still be sold.

Faber announced on 14 October that it would stop supplying Sally Rooney’s works in the United Kingdom, with the Irish author’s agreement. The publisher says British legislation prevents it from paying her UK earnings after she pledged to use her income to support Palestine Action.

The British government banned the group as a terrorist organisation in July 2025. Rooney confirmed her agreement with the publisher’s decision and her readiness to accept the consequences of her convictions.

The halt concerns new Faber supplies in every format. Existing stock in British bookshops can still be sold, and Faber will continue selling her works in other territories. The case raises questions about freedom of expression, authors’ political choices and the circulation of books.
