Andersen Prize draws a line: no AI in its 2027 fairy tales
For the 60th edition, works generated, rewritten or revised with artificial intelligence systems will not be accepted.

The Andersen Prize in Sestri Levante has introduced an explicit ban on artificial intelligence for the first time. The rule applies to every category of its 60th edition: AI may not be used to generate, write, rework or revise submitted fairy tales. This condition joins the existing requirements that entries be unpublished, never shared online and not entered in other concurrent competitions. Children, teenagers and adults may take part, including international authors and illustrators, but each work must remain entirely the product of personal imagination. Entries are open until 28 February 2027. The anniversary also coincides with the 30th year of the Andersen Festival, whose celebratory programme will be announced by the Municipality of Sestri Levante.
