Francesco Totti presented Oltre at Teatro Brancaccio on Via Merulana in Rome on Monday 19 October. Written with Alessandro Alciato and published by Cairo Editore, the book was discussed with moderator Cristina Fantoni before an affectionate audience.

Its starting point is 28 May 2017, Totti’s final match for Roma. Rather than revisiting sporting achievements alone, it explores the challenge of finding a new balance after football ceased to organise his daily life.

The 160-page volume includes family relationships, the loss of his father Enzo and changes in his private life. Carlo Ancelotti contributes the foreword. Humour accompanies the more difficult task of discovering who to be in a new chapter.

The Rome event brought that personal transition into a shared conversation. Beyond football, the book raises a familiar question: how do you begin again when the experience that shaped your identity comes to an end?
