Banff Centre announced the seven category winners of its 2026 Mountain Book Competition on 22 October, selected from 27 finalists and 173 submissions representing 12 countries. The Mountain Literature award went to Adam Weymouth’s Lone Wolf: Walking the Line Between Civilization and Wildness, published by Knopf Canada, a narrative investigation of the difficult coexistence between wolves, communities and a changing Europe. The other categories span environmental literature, adventure travel, mountain image, guidebooks, articles and climbing, creating a broad map of writing shaped by extreme landscapes. All seven winners now compete for the CAD $5,000 Grand Prize, to be announced on 5 November during the Banff Centre Mountain Film and Book Festival in Alberta, which runs from 31 October to 8 November.
